Derek Pringle made an impassioned defence of his view that Andrew Strauss shouldn’t be a part of England’s World Cup squad in yesterday’s Telegraph . And he’s absolutely right: if that was his view before the England captain’s century against Pakistan on Sunday, then a big knock against a dispirited side in familiar English conditions should not have changed it. The consensus is that Pringle – and Alec Stewart and Darren Gough – were made to look silly by leaving England’s captain out of their 15-man squads as part of Sky’s ODI coverage just a few hours before he spanked Pakistan for 126 runs, but their arguments – that Strauss’ subcontinent record is poor and that on sluggish pitches he may struggle to utilise the Powerplay overs, especially in hitting down the ground – remain
